Staying Motivated While Staying at Home
As many of us adjust to a “new normal” of working from home and simply being home more often, things can begin to feel a little monotonous. It’s important to develop new techniques to stay motivated whether you need a little boost for your fitness routine, workday, or just to feel inspired!
Here are a few tips on how you can keep yourself motivated at home:
Move your body. If you have a few minutes and need a little boost for your energy level, take a quick stretch break or move your legs! Whether it’s a walk outside or around your house, a stretch at your desk or 10 quick jumping jacks, getting your body moving and your blood pumping can be great to refresh your mind and leave you feeling energized.
Allow your mind to wander. Pick up a favorite book or a magazine and allow your mind to wander into whatever you’re reading. Not only will the shift in focus allow you to reset your thinking, you may just come across something that inspires your creativity and motivation.
Commit to a routine. Whether it’s a workout routine, a morning routine or eating lunch at the same time every day, creating some structure in your day can help motivate you in other aspects of your life. For example, exercise can clear your mind and polish your focus, paving the way for clarity and a motivation boost! To set up your at-home practice space for even more motivation, here are a few tips.
Set up your space. As many of us are now working from home and our living room/kitchen/bedrooms are now our offices, it’s important to create a designated space to do your work. That way, you can train your brain to know when you’re in this space, it’s time to work. On the flip side, once you leave your workspace, your mind and body will get the signal that it’s time to move onto other parts of your day (working out, eating, sleeping). Whatever your workspace looks like, add touches that make you happy like a favorite mug or poster that to allow your mind to drop in and focus. Here are a few tips to create a calm workspace.
Get into the groove. Pick a playlist that taps into what you need to feel motivated. Could be classical jazz or upbeat electronic -- whatever works for the mood you’re in. And, it can change day to day. Try the CorePower playlists on Spotify and Apple Music!
Set goals! Goal setting, whether big or small, can help you feel motivated as you achieve tangible results and track your progress.
Crowd source. Ask your friends and family what they do to stay motivated in work or in life. You can even ask a range of ages and a mix of genders –different perspectives lead to growth. Try a few different practices and see what works for you.
Getting and staying motivated can be tough, and it can change depending on how you’re feeling on any given day. Use these tips as a cheat sheet anytime you’re feeling stuck and need a little boost!
