Take Your Practice Outdoors
Combining my two favorite things—the outdoors and yoga—is what I call a perfect combination. If you like yoga and being outside give it a try! At first you may feel self-conscious, but I promise it will fade fast. The joy of moving freely in the great outdoors is blissful. If you need some guidelines, try out a few of these ideas.
Flow with what you know.
Start with the Sun A you’ve done in either a C1, C2 or HPF class. The Sun A from HPF is great if you don’t want to touch the ground with your hands. Repeat the flow 3-5 times to warm up.
Be Still.
Do some holds, pick any postures you enjoy and/or want to work on. For instance, revolved crescent lunge for some detoxing or triangle pose, or standing straddle pose to open up your hamstrings. Hold the postures steady for 4-6 breathes.
Strengthen your core!
You know you love it! Do a little boat pose and some yogi bicycles.
Get upside down.
Falling on the beach or in the grass is fun! Try some handstands or crow pose on a soft surface.
Get closer to the earth.
Do some seated stretches and some back bends. Nothing fancy. Put your feet out in front of you and reach for them, then hold it for 5-7 breathes to let your body relax into a deep stretch. Then roll onto your back and do some bridge pose or full wheel. Feel like a kid again or even have your kids join in!
Final relaxation… Savasana!
Find your favorite sunny or shady spot and just relax. You can do Savasana with your eyes open and watch the clouds go by or just listen to the waves.
You really can’t do it wrong as long as you move and breathe! During your outdoor session, you may want to have someone take your picture. You’ll be pleasantly surprised how beautiful you look when you are doing yoga. #FollowYourPassion
