6 De-Stressing Poses to Practice Anywhere
Between decking the halls, shopping and spending time with family and friends, it’s no wonder that even the most grounded yogis get frazzled this time of the year.
Don’t let holiday stress take over! No matter where you are (sitting in shopping traffic, waiting in a long line or getting the house ready for company), de-stress, refocus and realign with these six yoga-inspired postures.
Sitting in Traffic
Note: Only perform the following poses if your vehicle is stopped. Safety first!
Cat/Cow Pose
Keep your hands on the steering wheel
Round your back for Cat Pose and hold for 2-3 breaths
Arch your back for Cow Pose and hold for 2-3 breaths
Neck Roll
Keep your hands on the steering wheel
Drop your right ear to your right shoulder and hold for 2-3 breaths
Repeat on the left side
Neck Twist
Keep your hands on steering wheel
Gently turn your neck to the right and look over your right shoulder
Hold for 2-3 breaths
Repeat on the left side
Standing In Line
One-Legged Mountain Pose Squats
Stand on your left leg
Lift your right leg to hip height with knee bent to 90 degrees
Keeping your right leg lifted, bend your left leg and hold squat for 2-3 breaths
Return to standing and lower your right leg
Repeat on the right side
Standing Twist
From standing, twist your upper body to the right side and hold for 3 breaths
Return to a neutral standing position
Repeat on the left side
Wall Sit
Press your back up against a wall
Sit with your thighs parallel to the floor
Press your abdominals into the wall
