Reconnecting with the Earth
There’s something really special about feeling in tune with the Earth and all its beauty. I know that when I don’t get outdoors enough or haven’t been connecting with nature, I get a little stir crazy.
In times like this, there are a few things that I like to do to ground down and tune in with my natural surroundings again:
Adventure in Nature
From a hike in the mountains, to a swim in the ocean, to a walk in the park, getting outside (no matter where or how) immediately helps me feel more connected to the Earth. Give it a try! Head out to your favorite place in nature, turn your phone off, or better yet, leave it at home and simply soak in the beauty around you. Take a seat and a mindful moment to appreciate the sounds, smells and views.
Plant Something
Trees provide oxygen and help to clean our air, among other amazing benefits for the Earth. Want to contribute to this? Plant a tree! There are lots of organizations that you can connect with to get started. That said, there are many other things to plant. If you’re a cook, start a small vegetable garden to use in your very own garden-to-table recipes. A bright flower bed can be a great planting project as well.
Bring the Outdoors in
I love to bring a little bit of nature into my home to make it feel more lively and inviting. If you’re new to the plant ownership game, I suggest starting with a few potted succulents or a small cactus or two. These plants require very little water and are a great option for those who are looking for something a little more low-maintenance. If you’re up for a bigger commitment, you can opt for a spider plant, a fern or even a yucca plant. Mixing it up is also fun, and you can create your own lush little oasis right in your home. This can make for a perfect spot for meditation or practicing yoga.
Practice Outside
Perhaps my favorite way to reconnect with the Earth is by taking my yoga practice outside. There’s nothing like welcoming the day with sun salutations, doing tree pose in a forest or honoring a new moon with a special flow. When you mindfully connect breath to movement in the outdoors, it’s easy to feel at one with the Earth.
