Fuel Your Practice
I am lucky to make it to my yoga mat 4-5 times a week at my local Denver CorePower Yoga studios. In one efficient hour I not only get a deep physical workout but also a mindful moment to just breath and fuel myself to take on life outside of the yoga room. I know to get the most out of practice, I need to also fuel my body with the proper nutrients and hydration pre and post sweat.
Here are my go to favorite snacks + meals to make the most of the time on my mat:
Pre-Yoga
My favorite CPY classes are C2 and Yoga Sculpt - meaning I get super sweaty. Before jumping in to the heated room I always hydrate myself with Nuun Electrolytes Tablets. Nuun tabs are great for the yoga room and keeps me properly hydrated. The Nuun Electrolytes with caffeine are also a great option to give me a little pick me up before I start flowing or picking up weights.
I am early bird and love getting in to an early morning C2 to start my day. A protein shake with granola is my go-to meal before class because it gives me just the right amount of nutrients without feeling too full to get upside down or twist in class. Nutiva Plant Based Protein is gluten free and grain free and the perfect mix to add in with my favorite veggies and fruits for a smoothie. I often add the Blueberry Hemp Ancient Grain Granola from Purely Elizabeth. This sprinkle over a smoothie is the perfect pre-class breakfast.
If I am able to squeeze in a lunch time class, I grab my (healthy) obsession - RX Bars. These protein bars give me just the right boost to push myself on my mat during the middle of the day.
Post Yoga
I am always in need of a refresh after a CPY sweat-sesh and Health Ade Kombucha answers the call. This fermented tea with natural probiotics is a great addition to water after class. If I am need of another light after yoga snack, I love Hippeas. These organic chickpea puffs are delicious, gluten free and have a great combo of fiber and protein.
After I have taken a kick butt sculpt class, I love refueling my body with high protein pasta, Banza Pasta. This chickpea pasta is chalk full of protein, fiber and carbs and is so good my picky husband will even eat it after sculpt :)
Lastly, I am all about a "treat yourself" moment after (or let's be honest, sometimes before) a CPY class. There is nothing better than Justin's Peanut Butter cups. The dark chocolate almond butter cups are well deserved after pushing myself physically and mentally on my mat.
