Crown Chakra Basics

According to yogic philosophy, chakras are wheels of energy located along the full length of the spine — from the root to the top of the head. Each chakra is associated both with physical areas of the body and with specific issues and experiences in our lives.

The seventh chakra, also known as the “Crown Chakra,” is located above the crown of the head and is associated with the color purple. This chakra represents a connection to our Highest Self, the Universe and the Divine. A balanced Third Chakra is demonstrated by feelings of pure bliss that allow you to be confident and live with an attitude of abundance and gratitude. It is from the Crown Chakra that all other chakras originate.

Blocked Crown Chakra

Deficiency within this chakra can present itself as a lack of faith, where you feel as though there is no greater connection and that you’re not influential in the greater scheme of things. Overly practical and unimaginative, your ideas are limited and this limits your possibilities. Individuals with these issues are in need of awakening their Crown Chakras and releasing any blockages. Yoga can assist in rebalancing this chakra. Poses to Awaken Your Crown Chakra: Headstand, Rabbit Pose, Embryo Pose, Savasana (Corpse Pose)

Overactive Crown Chakra

Excess within this chakra can present itself as an inability to connect to the physical world, an obsession with enlightenment and an inability to experience. Meditation can be a powerful tool to help calm an overactive Crown Chakra by helping you to focus on the present. Use mala beads as a meditation tool to help you focus. Also consider using a meditation pillow to help ground you, freeing you to focus on your crown chakra.
