Ayurveda Tips for Spring

Feeling wobbly in eagle pose? Are you ready for a nap every afternoon? You’re not alone! Winter is morphing into spring, and this can often cause turmoil in our body chemistry. This is the perfect time of year to turn to the practice of Ayurveda (yoga’s sister science) to get back in balance. The goal of Ayurveda is to create balance and health in the body and mind by creating equalization in the three doshas.

Doshas, in their “natural ratios”, give way to countless benefits when they’re in balance. The closer we are to our natural ratio, the more we are happy and healthy. When our natural ratios are off, the more our mental and physical health suffers. Get your body and mind back in check with these dosha-specific tips below:  

Vata

If Vata is your predominant dosha, you might feel anxious, have a decreased appetite or have trouble sleeping. If this sounds familiar, slow down! Take a CoreRestore class and make time for meditation. Don’t skip meals and get to bed earlier. Sleep just feels too good to miss out.

Pitta

If Pitta is your predominant dosha, you’ll feel heat rise in your body and mind when you’re imbalanced, resulting in irritability and anger. These are signals to chill out! Remove yourself from competitive activities, and take an unheated CorePower Yoga 1 class. Decrease consumption of alcohol and go for a walk in a natural setting where you can be surrounded by water and plants (Botanic Gardens, anyone?).

Kapha

If Kapha is your predominant dosha, you’ll notice resistance to change and stubbornness when your balance is out of whack. To find steadiness, get moving and start exercising. Challenge yourself with a Yoga Sculpt class. Eat lighter, spicier foods and give away things you’ve been unnecessarily holding on to. It’s the perfect time to do some spring cleaning!
