4 Ways to Practice Self-Love
One of the closest and most important relationships you will ever have is with yourself. Unfortunately, outside factors sometimes lead to it being the relationship that ends up getting the least amount of attention. On top of that, practicing self-love can feel like just one more thing on the to-do list.
Keeping this in mind, here are some easy ways to incorporate more self-love into your life:
Treat yourself.Treating yourself doesn’t have to be about being over indulgent. Instead, make it about recognizing all the hard work you do and appreciating what you have accomplished. Sure, that could mean gifting yourself those yoga pants you’ve been eying, but it could also mean turning on your favorite jam and dancing it out in celebration of Y-O-U!
Let yourself off the hook. Many times, we are our own harshest critics. In these instances, it’s important to try to turn those feelings of judgement into opportunities for growth. Learn what you can from the situation, and then move forward. Dwelling on the past or continuing to beat yourself up doesn’t serve you, so let it go.
Practice gratitude. Notice the moments you are happy (big or small), and write them down in a gratitude journal. Research shows that grateful people tend to sleep better, have improved self-esteem and overall stronger mental health. Check out some other great ways to practice gratitude.
Go to yoga. Yoga is a wonderful activity to do to show your mind and body some love. Physically, a consistent yoga practice can bring increased flexibility, better balance, improved circulatory health, stronger muscles - the list goes on and on. Studies have also shown that practicing yoga can help to improve anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder, among other mental health concerns.
Remember, self-love can manifest itself in many different ways, but it should never feel like a chore. Lean in to whatever works for you!
