We love being green at CorePower Yoga, and we’re always looking for new ways to reduce our impact on the environment. In honor of Earth Day, we’ve come up with some yoga-centric ideas to be more kind to our planet:

1. Ride your bike to yoga (or work…or happy hour!)

Riding a bike to get where you’re going isn’t just a great workout; it also takes one more vehicle off the road. Don’t have a bike? Take the bus or carpool! Feeling ambitious? Designate one day per week to take alternate transportation. You can do it!

2. Hold a yoga clothing swap

If you’re like us, you might have some extra lightly-worn yoga clothes lying around your closet. Invite your yogi friends over for a clothing swap! This is a great way to recycle used clothing, and pass along clothes that you might otherwise toss. One yogi’s trash is another yogi’s treasure!

3. Invest in an eco-friendly yoga mat or towel

CPY retail boutiques source a variety of eco-friendly products. If you’re in the market for a new mat, the Manduka Travel Mat contains no PVC, toxic dyes or harmful plastics, is made from non-Amazon harvested natural rubber and is great for the traveling or cycling yogi. Jade’s Harmony Travel Mat also contains no PVC and is made from natural rubber, but the Jade team goes one step further and plants a tree for every mat sold. We also sell Yogitoes towels, which are not only essential for the heated yoga practitioner, but also environmentally friendly. Yogitoes, inc. is deeply committed to reducing their carbon footprint, and to date, they have repurposed 3.9 million recycled plastic bottles into their product line.

If you practice daily, make sure to recycle your worn mats before investing in a new one. You can either find a recycling program near you or creatively repurpose.

Happy Earth Day, yogis!
