It’s a new year and we all know what that means! The dreaded New Year’s resolutions. Well, fear not! This is actually the year of the MoYo -- that’s Sanskrit for Motivate Yourself. Ok, not really, but we’re going with it!

We all have different intentions for this year. Maybe you’re planning to run your first 5k, take Yoga Sculpt a few times a week or eat more veggies. Or maybe you’re trying to be positive or discover patience during trying times. Whatever it is, we know how challenging it can be to stick to intentions and change routines. Here are our MoYo tips that may be useful as you set sail into 2016!

  • Take Five. In a world where cell phones and email drive our days, taking five disconnected moments can seem impossible. Instead of checking your electronic device as soon as your alarm goes off in the morning, take five minutes to journal or meditate. It will help start your day with a pause instead of a rush.

  • Start Small. It’s easy to dream big, but most times far-reaching goals can seem overwhelming. Set a series of small targets for one big goal, and you’ll feel a sense of accomplishment with each milestone you hit.

  • Create Music. Whether you are de-cluttering your house, working out or battling through traffic, fun music can always be re-energizing. Try making new playlists to accompany you throughout the day. (And don’t forget to check out our Spotify profile for some of our favorite tunes!)

  • Cook Deliciously. While it can often seem easier to pick up takeout after a busy day, cooking at home can actually be relaxing (and healthier)!  Plan a week of meals over the weekend so that weeknights are easy, and of course, delicious. Bonus: leftovers = lunch the next day.

  • Smile. Lots of days feel so daunting with everything we take on that even the idea of taking a quick walk seems like too much. When days like these roll around, find something to smile about. It will bring so much light to your day!

  • Splurge. We all oversleep, eat a second cookie and skip yoga for a much-needed couch potato session. That’s okay! We’re human. Give yourself a break from time-to-time.

So this year, when you’re feeling like you aren’t accomplishing what you set out to do, remember to MoYo. Sometimes the littlest things can go a long way in keeping a realistic perspective on your goals. Avoid burn-out in January. Remember, 2016 is still young!
