Last week, we started following Cori on her 8-week Teacher Training journey with CorePower Yoga. As the first week of Teacher Training comes to an end, Cori and her fellow Grant Studio Teacher Trainees are methodically making their way through the C1 sequence and finding out that teaching yoga takes guts!

TT Week 2

What have you taken away from Teacher Training so far?

I’ve gained a new perspective on practicing, teaching and embracing yoga in my everyday life.

What was the focus of this week’s training?

This week, we broke down the Integration Series through the Crescent Lunge Series.

What has challenged you this week?

I’m certainly not alone when I say Chaturanga has challenged me this week. Most of us have been doing it wrong or have serious adjustments to make. I have been practicing Chaturanga on my knees to try and change some of my old habits.

What was your favorite moment this week?

I volunteered to teach Integration through the Sun Salutation A portion of class in front of the group. While it was completely nerve racking, and it certainly could have gone smoother, I'm so glad I did it!  As an introvert with an unhealthy fear of public speaking, that was a big first step for me.

Have you changed the way you view your yoga instructors?

When you take a class, you never stop to think about how nervous the instructor might be.  It's really easy to be critical of a teacher, especially when they’re new.  Once you get up there and try it for yourself, and everyone in the room is staring at you, you realize that there is so much to think about when guiding a class through practice.  It takes a lot of guts to show up and teach.

What do you still hope to learn?

I'm really excited for the anatomy lectures, but we’re only a week in, so I know there is still so much more to come!
