Dear Yogi,
The Fourth of July came and went, but that doesn't mean we can't continue to remember, and be grateful for, the independence and freedoms we enjoy. Think of July as another opportunity for thanks-giving, and reflect about things you are grateful for. CorePower Yoga is grateful to have such a wonderful and supportive community of yogis. We're happy to extend discounts to you for the Telluride Jazz Festival and Wanderlust Festival so you can take advantage of summertime, yoga and music! We're also grateful that our CEO, Trevor Tice, is such a great entrepreneur! He recently was honored with Ernst & Young's Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the Rocky Mountain Region. |
Asana of the Month:
Dhanurasana
(don-your-AHS-anna)
Floor bow is a very beneficial spine strengthener and heart opener. This posture is great for those with digestive issues, respiratory ailments, mild backache, fatigue and anxiety.
How to achieve Dhanurasana:
Begin by laying flat on your belly with your arms at your sides, and your chin facing forward. Bend your knees and capture your feet from the outside with your thumbs pointing toward your knees. Walk your knees back toward one another, and then begin to kick your ankles into your palms, using the strength in your quadriceps to kick. Engage your entire spine, and allow your chest and shoulders to open as you kick harder into your palms. Gaze down at the floor in front of you to take the tension out of your neck. Engage your core to protect your belly and continue to breathe deep and steady breaths. If you feel good here, begin to shift your weight forward into the soft part of your belly for a deeper opening.
Hold for 5 - 7 breaths, then release back on to your belly, and gaze to the right or left.
Our monthly podcasts feature a new asana each month as well as our Ask a Yogi segments where we provide answers to frequently asked yoga questions.
Is there a posture you're just dying to get into? Let us know!
