CorePower Yoga - Power Vinyasa

VinyasaCorePower Yoga offers a truly unique yoga practice based on intuition rather than tradition. CorePower Yoga heals, detoxifies and exhilarates the body and mind with emphasis on movement, balance and intention. CorePower Yoga has created a dynamic, challenging program that combines strength, flow and spirituality.

CorePower Yoga is an intense practice that appeals to everyone from the working professional to the stay-at-home mom. During class, time and space and the worries of the day disappear and the focus is solely on flow, movement, balance and intention. A Vinyasa-style yoga, CorePower Yoga focuses on core strength, balance and flow to build a solid practice based on strength and spirit. A secular practice, CorePower Yoga honors the roots of yoga without imposing the preconceived spiritual practices of other programs. Our role is to guide students to make their practice their own and their intention personal - each student is encouraged to embark on their own spiritual journey. As is often said in class, “I am only here to be your guide. You know your body best, listen to it and follow your intuition.”

Accessible to beginners and advanced students, CorePower Yoga emphasizes breathing to connect the body and mind. CorePower 1 and CorePower 2 classes are offered at all studios nationwide. We recommend taking at least 5 to 10 C1 classes before taking a C2 class. C1 is unheated and instructors teach at a slower pace.

CorePower Hot Yoga

Hot YogaCorePower Hot Yoga is a series of 26 postures performed in a precise order, in a room heated to 105 degrees. This class systematically works the entire body, concentrating on the essence of every organ, bone, joint, muscle, ligament, tendon, blood vessel, nerve and gland. Incorporating strength, balance, and flexibility, CorePower Hot Yoga teaches students how each pose stimulates the mind and restores and shapes the body. This class is available in a 90, 75 and 60 minute format.

Benefits

  • Muscle Toning
  • Balance
  • Weight Loss
  • Stress Reduction
  • Increased Vitality
  • Flexibility
  • Strength

Reasons for the Heat

  • Enhances vasodilatation* so that more blood is delivered to the muscles
  • Allows oxygen in the blood to detach from the hemoglobin more easily**
  • Speeds up the breakdown of glucose and fatty acids
  • Makes muscles more elastic, less susceptible to injury
  • Improves coordination
  • Reduces heart irregularities associated with sudden exercise
  • Burns fat more easily.***

*The capillaries that weave around the muscles respond to heat by dilating.  This brings more oxygen to the muscles and helps in the removal of waste products such as carbon dioxide and lactic acid.

**When blood passes through warm muscles oxygen releases more easily from the hemoglobin.  Blood passing through cold muscles releases much less oxygen.

***Warmed muscles burn fat more easily than cold ones.  Fat is released during stress.
The stress of intense exercise causes a deluge of fatty acids into the blood streams.  If you exercise with cold muscles they can't use the fatty acids, and they end up in places where they aren't wanted, such as the lining of your arteries.

Note:  Muscles aren't the only beneficiaries of heat.  Higher temperatures improve the function of the nervous system, meaning that messages are carried more rapidly to and from the brain or SPINAL CORD.  Warm muscles are more elastic and are less susceptible to injury.  Warmer temperatures produce a fluid like stretch that allows greater range of motion.  Cold muscles don't absorb shock or impact as well and aren't stretched as well so they get injured more readily.

Yoga Sculpt

Yoga SculptCorePower Yoga Sculpt is a total body workout designed to tone and sculpt every major muscle group. Free weights serve as your own personal adjuster as you move through sun salutations and other yoga postures, enabling extra length and depth in each pose. This intense, but easy to follow program complements your regular yoga practice while pushing your strength and flexibility to new heights.

Why strength train?
The main reason to strength train is to build lean muscle mass. Aerobic activities are good calorie burners, but strength training two days a week will have a greater long-term impact on your metabolism.

CoreRestore

CoreRestore* is a restorative yoga class inspired by Yin Yoga that focuses on gently stretching and healing the connective tissue through a series of holding postures. This class can be taken by yogis of all levels and is the perfect complement to an existing yoga practice or exercise programs of any type. CoreRestore helps to balance the intense muscular engagement experienced in other CorePower Yoga classes and activities of all types. Postures are typically held from 3-5 minutes.

CoreRestore is about sensation, feeling and stillness in a pose. Postures in CoreRestore never require strain or struggle and are similar to versions of relaxation and stretching poses practiced in other yoga classes. Students focus on breathing naturally rather than on a guided, intentional breath pattern and leave class feeling relaxed yet energized!

Benefits of CoreRestore:

  • Balances CorePower Yoga’s other class offerings with a slow, recuperative practice
  • Yields a deep, relaxed yet energized state through less effort
  • Targets connective tissue (ligaments, bones, joints, fascia) versus muscle
  • Calms mind and body

*CoreRestore is offered at select studios. Please check your class schedule for more details.
